7 Ways To A More Purposeful Life

You Can Live A More Purposeful Life

Imagine for just a moment that you are playing a video game where anything can happen. And the main character in this game is you. Limiting nothing, exactly what would your character do and achieve? What choices would be made, if nothing was holding this imaginary character back from living the most fulfilling, happy, and perfectly full existence?

You, and, I live in a dreamlike reality where there is currently more opportunity for any individual than there has ever been since the beginning of humankind. There truly are no excuses for not living the most satisfying and purposeful life you possibly can.

If you are ready to truly tap the incredible potential which is inside you then by incorporating the following seven ways into your daily life, you’ll be well on your way to living a deeply meaningful life, a life of purpose and satisfaction.

1) Be Clear About What You Want Out of Life

Living a fulfilling and successful life may mean different things to different people. The first thing you must be absolutely laser-focused on is what exactly a life of fulfillment means to you. If you do not know where you want to go, how can you get there?

Be very specific about those things that will lead to a life of happiness and joy. Think back to your most fulfilling and peaceful memories. What were they? Who was with you? Where did you live? What were you doing with your free time? Ask these questions of your true self and you will have taken the important first step towards living the life of your dreams.

2) Start Taking Some Risks

If you never swing the bat, you will never hit a home run. A successful professional baseball player is considered world-class if he gets a hit just three times out of every ten at-bats. And that is what life is about. Taking risks, hearing those “nos”, failing, falling, and getting right back up.

If you could go back in time and do all those things that you now regret that you never attempted, wouldn’t you? Start today by taking some risks that offer potentially huge rewards, and you will never have to suffer the guilt and shame that comes along with a regretful life of never taking a chance.

3) Divorce the Internet, Loki, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Texting

Seriously, will cruising Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others, sending dozens of texts every week, and wasting your valuable and limited time watching reality TV, like RuPaul’s Drag Race do you any good at all in the long run? The average American spends a ridiculous 34 hours a week watching TV. Add another 23 hours a week e-mailing, checking into social networks, and texting. The numbers are not far off in other countries either.

There is nothing wrong with watching a couple of hours of entertaining, brain-dead television. You have to unwind some time. But there are only 168 hours given to each person every week. Anywhere from 42 to 56 hours of that is spent sleeping. Can you live a truly fulfilling life by wasting an additional 57 hours watching television and fooling around online each week?

If you simply track your time spent online and watching television and cut it in half, you would have at least 3 to 4 hours every day to invest in truly fulfilling activities.

4) Embrace New Experiences

New experiences can sometimes be scary. But when you step outside of your comfort zone, you subject yourself to the realities that you may never have realized were possible.

Embrace new experiences and situations. Say “yes” the next time you are invited to an event or outing that pushes your boundaries. You never know what one particular activity or engagement may hold the key to a lifetime of true fulfillment for you unless you throw caution to the wind and jump on board.

5) Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff, and It’s All Small Stuff

99% of the things you fret and stress and worry over are insignificant. Who cares what someone else thinks about what you are wearing, how much you weigh, what type of car you drive, or anything else?

When you catch yourself becoming consumed with time-wasting activities, issues, and events that really don’t matter, hold yourself accountable. Switch your focus to rewarding actions that get you back on the path to your dream life of contentment and joy.

6) Celebrate Gratitude Daily

Have you ever noticed that the most serene, peaceful, and content people are always giving thanks for something? When you think about it, it just makes perfect sense.

If you have designed a game plan which outlines the most fulfilling characteristics and activities that you want in your life consistently, that means that you appreciate those times when you were truly content and fulfilled.

If you practice saying thanks daily for even the smallest things, you begin to realize that you are much closer than you had imagined to achieving the fulfilling amd purposeful life that you desire.

7) Employ the Power of Positive Thinking … and Then Take Action

Positive thinking is the first step toward positive action. You absolutely must have the ability to focus on positive thoughts if you are going to truly achieve the incredible. But you must also take action.

There is an old saying that knowledge is power, but that isn’t totally correct. Action upon knowledge is power. You can be the most positive-minded individual in the world. But once you have the knowledge to attain a certain thing toward a life of fulfillment, then it is up to you to take specific and intelligent action on that knowledge. Positive-minded action-takers always live the lives that they desire.

“I believe purpose is something for which one is responsible; it’s not just divinely assigned.” – Michael J. Fox
